Early Childhood Special Education Classes

Livingston Parish Public Schools Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Program provides services to developmentally disabled preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 and support to their families.  The goal is to maximize the child's ability to function independently.

Disabling conditions and established medical disabilities that may qualify the child for services are: 

  • Autism

  • Developmental Delay

  • Serious Emotional Disturbance

  • Deaf-blindness

  • Specific Learning Disability

  • Deafness

  • Speech or Language Impairment

  • Hearing Impaired

  • Traumatic Brain Injury

  • Visual Impairment

  • Multiple Disabilities

  • Established Medical Disability

  • Orthopedic Impairment

Criteria for eligibility are based on state and federal regulations.

Delivery of services may be provided in:  

  • Regular Kindergarten Classes

  • Center-based programs

  • Home-based programs

  • Day Care Centers

  • Headstart Centers

The length of a child's day and number of days in attendance are IEP options.

     Livingston Parish has seventeen ECSE classes. The classes are located at Albany Lower Elementary, Eastside Elementary, Frost School, Gray's Creek Elementary, Levi Milton Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, Seventh Ward Elementary, Springfield Elementary and Walker Elementary. ECSE students from all over the parish attend these centrally located classes. Transportation is provided.  In addition, four itinerant teachers provide ECSE services.
